Life is really really short...

Life is short.

Accidents do happen. It's weird that accidents happened to someone you knew.

Someone who is the same age as me. Someone who is so clever, witty, funny and charismatic. Someone even quoted that he might the Singapore's next LKY...

Although I don't personally know him, he's someone who everyone knew in YTSS... The head councillor in YTSS during our batch.. How could this happen to him? I don't understand.. Why is life so unfair...

Rest in peace...

Goodbye freeedom

What is there to say.

Actually it ended on saturday, after the trip to rockingham. Oh yea. need to write a essay on how suay we were during the trip to rockingham. LOL.

This is the overall summary:

  1. Went to rockingham 3 times (to and fro)
  2. Individual suayness - KH lost her sunnies, Kobi talked to someone who really enthusiastic (too extreme i think) about the law system until he felt threatened (prob the wrong word to describe it but oh well), Ivan can't start the car, and I got "harassed" by little kids (with one keep saying F you to me, I wonder if he knows what he's saying)?

And ytd (since its monday now), started work again.. So tired.. But I wonder why haven't I taken a bath yet.. I should take a bath, wash my dishes and sleep. Oh well.. Because I was so busy playing RC and youtube-ing 2NE1.. LOL..

And I found a cool video of dara from 2NE1.. Haha!

Writing this before I bath..

  1. Do not complain. Why are you complaining when you only have 2 units?
  2. Study hard! Facebook less. It means RC-ing only in the morning.
  3. Go school at 9 am, go home at 10 pm, bath and sleep. Do not attempt to do anything else!
  4. Complete this by this week: Half of the gene assignment, stat assignment 4 question 1, 3/4 of stat project and the presentation for the cancer workshop
Sounds easy? Stick to it! 3 and a half weeks to exams!

Tough luck, girl.

Ok.

So I've send an email to ANU asking for the outcome for the summer scholarship. Tomorrow's the day that I gonna know for sure (although I do know that 99% would be a rejection from them..)

Blame it on why didn't I choose a science research project. Really stupid of me for hoping that there's a miracle. Even if I were to get chosen, the project would be something really difficult as I'm already struggling in my assignment already.. Sigh.. But still.. I hope for a miracle to happen...

Sigh.. Gonna work tml too.. Reverse psychology do work on me, I swear. I must learn how to reject people soon... Learn to study smart and juggle your time wisely..

Things to do (for the week)

  1. Parkinson's one page report
  2. Vacuum the floor
  3. AIMS: Functional genomics
  4. AIMS: HIV
  5. AIMS: Malaria debate research
  6. AIMS Major Assignment (I should be at least 2/3 done!!)
  7. Stat Assignment 3 (At least 3/4 done!)
  8. Stat Project (At least 1/3 done??)
  9. Review stat lectures!
  10. Work (Tue morning)
  11. Work (Thur night)
  12. Work (Sat night)
  13. Work (Sun morning)

Tell me, how am I suppose to do all these in a week!

Last day of freedom.

Perth Royal Show rocks man!!!

The fireworks are really awesome!!! 15 minutes of fireworks!!! Definitely awesome to the max!!! Although it did 'rain' a bit cardboard and some gunpowder or whatever that is on my face.. But it really really cool!! =)))

And I can't believe that I actually played this ride that is the highest, dizziest, fastest (maybe) ride... For someone who's afraid of height (and actually feeling wobbly just by walking the overhead bridge), that's really an amazing feat.. Hahaha... Yea.. I can still remember how I felt..

Screaming like mad coz fear of height -> look down and omg. why did I subject myself to this -> start of the ride -> starting screaming -> screamed and screamed and screamed -> totally gave up my life when the force of gravity started to push me to the front (I think I was spinning and going backward at the same time?) -> totally gave up and just let the ride push me here and there (can't scream due to air pressure but how come other people can scream?) -> starting to regain my senses when it starts to slow down -> starting screaming again when we were left on top (because at the other end people are exiting the ride) -> starts to think that there's a part two and started screaming again -> slowly being let down to exit -> Stunned -> Picked up shoes and joined the group-> Mixed thoughts of "not doing it again" and "it's not that bad" coz I've survived it..

Hahaha.. Well.. I've tried it so I have no regrets.. Hahaha.. Next is sky diving!!

But overall.. The royal show is really good.. I really really enjoyed it (although I didn't get to play the bumper car).. I hope I can come next year too.. =))

After the royal show.. it's hardcore study time.. Hope that everyone enjoyed today.. =)

Now... I have to find my motivation to study! Sigh...

Damage to the mitochondria causes Parkinson's Disease?

Lots of ups and downs this week.. But survived all these (Flat inspection, called to work, philosophy assignment marks, HIV marks, KH's graduation).. What's left is the result of the ANU scholarship.. But seriously, what was I thinking when I'm applying to a stat scholarship instead of a research in science.. Probably because I'm too native... Ha. I can bet 90% that I'm not selected unless I have a applied statistic major.. HONESTLY. What the heck am I thinking!

If I'm not accepted.. I'll look around for honours project but most likely going to do under Matt's lab.. Haha.. I hope I'm not too noob for them.. And hope I can start my summer scholarship doing a bit of my honours project too.. Hahaha.

Weekends - Things to do:

  1. Eat dim sum! Haha!!!
  2. Listen to 3 lectopia
  3. Stat assignment 2
  4. Parkinson's workshop + Individual assignment
  5. Functional genomics revision
  6. Work (2 shifts)

I should start a kitchen cleaning service =.=

HAHAHA.

I'm so proud of myself..

Just mopping the kitchen floor, it took me more than 2 hours! This is simply incredible.. And I even used bleach!! And it's still not clean!!! ARGH!!

Total time spend to clean the kitchen: approximately 4 hours. This is really ultimate...

Tomorrow's (or rather later on) gonna be a tiring day.. Aim to finish my childhood cancer topic, stat assignment and help someone with the assignment when I'm not even sure what to do?? Hahahahaha!

Major assignment is slowly killing me..

Ahhh.. I have no clue about my major assignment!! It's supposed to be easier than what I have thought!! Why is this so difficult?? All the website should be redesigned to make it idiot-proof!! I have two sets of location for my gene (which I have no clue on which one to choose coz they're both from reliable sources!), and I know that there's 11 alternative transcript for my gene too.. But how are they different?? I have no clue!!!! And where are they normally expressed? All tissue? But I don't think that's the answers they want!
OMG OMG OMG. And I can bet that my protein interactions will have like 30 plus proteins interacting with it.. T.T
Tell me how to keep it to 3 000 words?? Already have 500 words and I'm not even 10% done! Nooooo!!

Hahhahaha!! Need to spend more time on it.. My things to do list keeps piling up.. Sigh...

Things to do:

  1. Learning objectives (Should I give up on ART? Hmm..)
  2. Stat Assignment 2 (done one question alr.. But the rest are hard.. T.T)
  3. Stat Project (Started.. Probably only like 5% done?)
  4. AIMS Major Assignment
Must try to do as much as possible for this week.. Coz two weeks later I would have parkinson and malaria workshop.. and they're worth a lot! Stat assignment is also due on next Friday!

You got to sit down and do your work man!

Interesting article

Taken from http://www.dountoothers.org/lookup.html

Why do people look up when thinking?

Medical doctors have a really nasty habit. You pose them a particularly tough Imponderable and they answer, “I don’t know.” Most medical and scientific research is done on topics that seem likely to yield results that can actually help clinicians with their everyday problems. Determining why people look up when thinking doesn’t seem to be a matter of earth-shaking priority.

Ironically, some serious psychologists have decided that this question is important; have found what they think is a solution to the Imponderable and, most amazingly, found a very practical application for this new information. These psychologists are known as neurolinguists.

Neurolinguists believe that many of our problems in human interaction stem from listeners not understanding the frame of reference of the people speaking to them. Neurolinguists have found that most people tend to view life largely through one dominant sense-----usually sight, hearing, or touching. There are many clues to the sensory orientation of a person, the most obvious being his or her choice of words in explaining thoughts and feelings.

Two people with varying sensory orientation might use totally different verbs, adjectives and adverbs to describe exactly the same meaning. For example, a hearing-oriented person might say, “I hear what you’re saying, but, I don’t like the sound of your voice.” The visually-oriented person might say, “I see what you mean, but, I think your real attitude is crystal clear.” Now, the touch-oriented person (neurolinguists call them kinesthetics) would be more likely to say, “I feel good about what you are saying, but, your words seem out of touch with your real attitude.”

Neurolinguistically trained psychologists have found that they can better understand and assist clients once they have determined the clients dominant sense (what they call the client’s representational system).

All three of the above quotes meant the same thing: “I understand you, but your words belie your true emotions.” Neurolinguists adapt their choice of words to the representational system of the client, and they have found that it has been a boom to establishing client trust and to creating a verbal shorthand between psychologist and patient. Any feeling that can be expressed visually can be expressed kinesthetically or auditorily as well, so the psychologist merely comes to the patient rather than having the patient come to the psychologist---------it helps eliminate language itself as a barrier to communications.

When grappling with finding the answer to a question, most people use one of the three dominant senses to seek the solution. If you ask people what their home phone number was when they were twelve years old, three different people might use the three different dominant senses of vision, hearing and feeling. One might try to picture an image of the phone dial; one might try to remember the sound of the seven digits, as learned by rote as a small child; and the last may try to recall the feeling of dialing that phone number. Notice that all three people were trying to remember an image, sound, or feeling from the past. But, some thoughts involve creating images, sounds, or feelings.

Neurolinguists found they could determine both the operative representational system of their client and whether they were constructing new images or remembering old ones before the client even opened their mouths-----simply by observing their eye movements!

These eye movements have now been codified. There are seven basic types of eye movements, each of which corresponds to the use of a particular sensory apparatus.. Please note that these “visual accessing cues” are for the average right-handed person; left-handers eyes ordinarily move to the opposite side. Also, “left-right” designation indicates the direction from the point of view of the observer.

Direction : Thought Process
      up-right : visually remembered images
up-left : visually constructing [new] images
straight-right : auditory remember sounds or words
      straight-left : auditory constructed [news] sounds/words
down-right : auditory sounds or words (“inner dialog”)
down-left : kinesthetic feelings (which can include smell or taste)

However, there is one more type of movement, or better, nonmovement. You may ask someone a question and he will look straight ahead with no movement and with eyes glazed and defocused. This means that he is visually accessing information. Try this on your friends. It really works!

There are more exceptions and complications, and this is an admittedly simplistic summary of the complicated neurolinguists’ methodology. For example, if you ask someone to describe his first bicycle, you would expect an up-ward movement as the person tries to remember how the bike looked. If, however, the person imagines the bike as sitting in the bowling alley where you both are now sitting, the eyes might move up-left, as your friend is constructing a new image with an old object. The best way to find out is to ask your friend how he tried to conjure up the answer.

Neurolinguistics is still a new and largely untested field, but it is a fascinating one to say the least. Most of the information in this chapter was “borrowed” from the work of Richard Bandler and John Grinder. If you’d like to learn more about the subject, and we encourage you young people to do so, we’d recommend their book frogs into Princes (sic).

Now, to get back to the original Imponderable----why do people tend to look up when thinking? The answer seems to be, and it is defiantly confirmed by our experiments with many friends, that most of us, a good part of the time, try to answer questions asked of us by visualizing the answers.

Life is ____.

It's AIMS workshop tml!!! I'm hating AIMS more and more... First a case study, then a mini test and then design a information leaflet with like 9 people in a group for 45 mins and present it.. OMG. And I haven't touched my philosophy assignment.

And after all that, I have to work.... ARGH... I HATE FRIDAYS!

AHHHHHH!!

Should start studying.. And there's a pre-drink in my flat.. Gone case la..

What has the world become?

crappy life.

Submitted my ANU summer scholarship application.. What's left is to scan a copy of my academic transcript and tell Prof. Bob about being my referee.. However, the chances are like 1 out of 50 man. The prof say that quite a number of students expressed interest in his project too.. So the chances of me getting is like really low as they probably have a stat major... Sigh...

And what's up with the philosophy assignment. I don't know how to write an entertaining script of four philosophers arguing about some scientific approach. If I know, I'll probably be a script writer.. Hellooo! I'm in science because I haven't have any creativity in me!!

And there's the HIV workshop. No one mentioned about meeting up and we are supposed to design a poster? Haha.. But I'm too scared to be labelled as a kiasu person to initiate a meeting..

Why are there so many depressing things happening lately...

Philosophy..

Round 3 of philosophy..

I was reading The Philosophy Gym by Stephen Law and was amused by a lot of things.. The most amusing story that I've read so far is The rational dentist where this dentist doubt everyone has a mind except himself. Hahaha! Yea! I was like "HUH??" at first.. But as he slowly explain himself, I say "Why not?". As he have explained all the queries I have so I guess.. Why not? Haha.. Oh yea.. Imagine yourself in the customer's shoes: while the dentist is drilling holes and putting fills into the holes of ur tooth, he tells you that he doesn't believe that you could feel any pain as you don't have a mind of your own. LOL.

And then there's one story about homosexuality.. It really made me reflect a lot about life. Things that you hate are actually based on just your thinking and emotions. If you hate those people.. why?? Read that story and you'll realize it's just your own disgust. There's nothing wrong with being homo. They're still humans! If you think its dirty, how about gardening? It's also dirty. The difference lies on how you think about these activity...

Philosophy really opened up my mind... Hahaha.. And i disagree with the rational dentist.. Haha.. Everyone have their own set of mind.. That's why there's different type of people around with their own individual personality, their own likes and dislikes, their own logic and most of all, their own unique way of thinking. We just gonna have to accept everyone for what he or she really is even if we hate his or her way of thinking... That's why there's also thousands or even millions philosophers around!

Just my two cents worth since I angered someone by asking some hurtful questions.. I'm sorry..

Does Santa Claus exist?

Oh my, this is hilarious.

DOES SANTA CLAUS EXIST?:
by Joel Potischman and Bruce Handy

  1. No known species of reindeer can fly.  BUT there are 300,000 species of living organisms yet to be classified, and while most of these are insects and germs, this does not COMPLETELY rule out flying reindeer which only Santa has ever seen.

  2. There are 2 billion children (persons under 18) in the world.  BUT since Santa doesn't (appear) to handle the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Buddhist children, that reduces the workload to 15% of the total -- 378 million according to Population Reference Bureau.  At an average (census) rate of 3.5 children per household, that's 91.8 million homes.  One presumes there's at least one good child in each.

  3. Santa has 31 hours of Christmas to work with, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west (which seems logical).  This works out to 822.6 visits per second.  This is to say that for each Christian household with good children, Santa has 1/1000th of a second to park, hop out of the sleigh, jump down the chimney, fill the stockings, distribute the remaining presents under the tree, eat whatever snacks have been left, get back up the chimney, get back into the sleigh and move on to the next house.  Assuming that each of these 91.8 million stops are evenly distributed around the earth (which, of course, we know to be false but for the purposes of our calculations we will accept), we are now talking about .78 miles per household, a total trip of 75.5 million miles, not counting stops to do what most of us must do at least once every 31 hours, plus feeding, etc. This means that Santa's sleigh is moving at 650 miles per second, 3,000 times the speed of sound.  For purposes of comparison, the fastest man-made vehicle on earth, the Ulysses space probe, moves at a poky 27.4 miles per second -- a conventional reindeer can run, tops, 15 miles per hour.

  4. The payload on the sleigh adds another interesting element.  Assuming that each child gets nothing more than a medium-sized Lego set (2 pounds), the sleigh is carrying 321,300 tons, not counting Santa, who is invariably described as overweight.  On land, conventional reindeer can pull no more than 300 pounds.  Even granting that "flying reindeer" (see point #1) could pull TEN TIMES the normal amount, we cannot do the job with eight, or even nine.  We need 214,200 reindeer.  This increases the payload -- not even counting the weight of the sleigh -- to 353,430 tons.  Again, for comparison, this is four times the weight of the Queen Elizabeth.

  5. 353,000 tons travelling at 650 miles per second creates enormous air resistance -- this will heat the reindeer up in the same fashion as spacecraft's re-entering the earth's atmosphere.  The lead pair of reindeer will absorb 14.3 QUINTILLION joules of energy.  Per second.  Each.  In short, they will burst into flames almost instantaneously, exposing the reindeer behind them, and create deafening sonic booms in their wake.  The entire reindeer team will be vaporized within 4.26 thousandths of a second.  Santa, meanwhile, will be subjected to centrifugal forces 17,500.06 times greater than gravity.  A 250-pound Santa (which seems ludicrously slim) would be pinned to the back of his sleigh by 4,315,015 pounds of force.

In conclusion, it seems  highly unlikely that Santa Claus does, or ever, existed.  Although, if Santa ever DID deliver presents on Christmas Eve, he's dead now.

Philosophy of Science Workshop

Oh! Philosophy of Science workshop was soooo interested that I couldn't understand.. Hahaha.. Let me quote some of the examples that the lecturer gave:

A particular turkey has always been fed everyday. So the turkey thought, "I'm going to get food everyday (formulating a law/ theory by observing - Deductive reasoning)." However, on Christmas day, it doesn't get any food.. And yea.. U got it.. it became the food instead (but it's not alive to say this law (that it is fed everyday) is wrong..

Some things can't be falsify: Your horoscope reading. This is my horoscope reading for today (Sagittarius):
Your social agenda is increasing this year so you'd better have extra time AND more fashion in your wardrobe to keep up with it all. A friend will push you into new areas of style which you were previously afraid of. You'll be pleased with the results though.

So how do you falsify this?

Tell me how in the world I should do my assignment?!

Oh yea.. He also say mentioned that if u want to expose someone who is imitating someone (eg. ur friend), ask for your friend's horoscope sign. Haha... Even if he can remember all the details like name and birthday, he or she will go errrr before answering.. Hahaha.. So if u want to imitate someone, remember their horoscope too!

Things to do (for Weekend)

Why didn't the lecturer give us a choice to CHOOSE OUR OWN GROUP MEMBERS!!! Zzzz...

But anyway I shouldn't let this affect me.. I will study HARD for the mini test even if it's just 1%!!

I realised I haven't print the notes for AIMS!! Super Zzzz.. Then the notes not up yet and thus, printed out the 2009 version.. Seriously, all lecturers should attend some CSAS on how to do a good presentation.. The fonts are like font 10 etc!!! Who would see that on lecture!??!?!

Stupid la.. Bad mood in the morning already... Zzzz.. Thankfully, the tutorial is just a tutorial that I crashed for stat.. My real tutorial is tml same time.. Zzz...

I think... I must be crazy...

I can confidently say that I have read/scan through over 50 journal articles on CGH/Haplotyping. Whether or not it has registered in my brain is another different thing. =.=

All these for just 5%. And I dun even think I will even get that full 5% unless I have an artistic poster... Zzzz.. Why must a science student design a poster... =.=.. That's precisely why we are SCIENCE students!!

Oh well.. Complained enough. Now back to work on a rainy night..  But first.. Bath please..

Time for miracle (by Adam Lambert)

It's late at night and I can't sleep
Missing you just runs too deep
Oh I can't breathe thinking of your smile

Every kiss I can't forget
This aching heart ain't broken yet
Oh God I wish I could make you see
'Cause I know this flame isn't dying
So nothing can stop me from trying

Baby you know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love
You know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love
No I ain't giving up on us

I just wanna be with you
'Cause living is so hard to do
When all I know is trapped inside your eyes

The future I cannot forget
This aching heart ain't broken yet
Oh God I wish I could make you see
'Cause I know this flame isn't dying
So nothing can stop me from trying

Baby you know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love
You know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love
No I ain't giving up on us

Baby can you feel it coming
You know I can hear it hear all the souls
Baby can you feel me feel you....

You know it's time....

Baby you know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love
You know that
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love

You know
Maybe it's time for miracles
'Cause I ain't giving up on love

No I ain't giving up love
I aint giving up no
no I ain't giving up on us

Alright!

I've managed to survive the first week of school. Wasn't so bad.. Ok. I lied. It was bad!!! I'm still in my holiday mood... Sigh.. Why is AIMS so hard!! Took a look at the learning objectives and 'whoa la', answers not in the lecture notes!! *Clap clap clap* So screwed!!!

And we just had fire alarm.. It's seriously F* up!! I mean.. Fire alarm that rang like 4-5 times for the past two weeks already!! It's not so bad at around now.. But we had fire alarm at 2am and 5am before!! Sigh..

So tired now.. But there's tons of things to do.. =((

  1. Work (Sat night and Sun morning)
  2. Research on CGH/ haplotyping
  3. Try to get started on AIMS assignment
  4. Revise AIMS and SDA (my stat unit)
  5. Laundry
  6. Read up for next monday's lecture

Not that much.. But just revising AIMS will take up TIME!

Gonna work lesser for next week..

- Shhuuu Huuiii -

First time that comes to my mind: CGH/Haplotyping... =.=

Kiwi - 8 for $2. Ha. I bet my cousin and my mum would be screaming, "I want!" and going off to buy probably a carton back to Sg if they are still here. Hahaha!

Currently studying the AIMS lecture notes for tml but gave up. Haha.. I mean, why are there so many things about freezing! The supercooling crap is unable to diffuse into my brain.. Haha.. Oh well.. We will see how it goes in the lecture.. Hopefully the lecturer will make it clearer to me..

On the side note.. Everyone around me seems to be sick.. It used to be people from work and now Carmen is sick too.. Hope I don't get sick though. It's hard to think and function or even control my emotions when I'm sick, since I tend to be depressed about almost everything. Haha.

I have severe problems with my studies...

Alright!

There's nothing wrong with me officially. Just that I haven't been study hard enough to get good results.. Oh well.. I'm gonna try and do my best for my final two units.. Hahaha..

On the side note.. Getting 8 out of 40 is a bad thing isn't it.. It totally change my marks! LOL.. I can't believe I can actually failed a question! LOL..

"Pawned" on the first day of school.

Hahahaha. School is sooo much interesting!!

Learnt something interesting.. Hahhaa.. What happens when you put PBS in the 5% CO2 incubator?? It turned into carbonic acid since the CO2 will dissolve in the solution! And it can't be used!!

And something about stat which I have problems seeing/ understanding.. but I do understand now.. Hahaha.. Randomized experiments allow us to make claims about causation WHILE observational studies do allow us to make claims about association (but not causation).

Hahahaha! School is sooooooooo interesting that I wanna cry for joy!!

Ok. Shall stop being so sarcastic.. But the above facts are the ones that I have found it interesting! Hahaha..
Let's look forward to Day 2 of school.. More work done and less complaining please.

Can't touch this.

Heh.. Some customers still remember me! Hahahaha! So happy when I think about it.. Haha.. A couple asked me how am I coping with the work! Haha.. And they were very sad that I will not be working as much as I had.. Hahahhaaha!! Customer service is the best man!! Hahaha!! This is why I wrote "I love working" for a pastime when I was in poly year 1! Hahaha!! But working for 16 days straight is really insane.. Hahaha.. The end result: an extremely tired Shu Hui.. Haha..

Oh well.. Whatever.. Hope that AIMS doesn't kill me at the end of the semester..

- Shhuuu Huuiii -

"Don't Rain On My Parade!"

School's starting tomorrow.. My first lesson will be AIMS (Advances in Medical Science)!

Jia you Shu Hui for ur final shift before school starts.. Hahaha..

Currently too tired.. *Yawns* Hope I don't make any more mistake... T.T

The editing is driving me nuts!

Testing testing testing..

-Shhuuu Huuiii -

o.O

I feel like I'm gonna kill myself soon.. My html skills are so lousy.. Zzzz... I can't shift that picture to the middle.. This is driving me crazy.. The new html format design is so nerve-whecking!! Argh!!!!!!!!

Just back from work and started working with blog.. Haha.. I'm so noob.. Probably at the same time, Ka hang and Ivan are at the airport and coming back to Perth. Haha..

Oh well.. School's going to start in less than 3 days..

-Shhuuu Huuiii -
Currently editing the blog to include reactions.. Hahaha.. Sorry for the messy-ness..

Guess doing this does have me feel a lot better and less irritated.. =)

But I need to go work soon! Hahahha! I'll probably spent the night doing this.. hahhaa..

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Hahhaa.. Looking at the photos... I feel sooooooo nostalgic.

I missed soooo many people.. My 'always crazy and noisy' primary school friends, secondary school friends who are loud and funny, ASc friends who never failed to support me (those shit heads and more), karate people who always make me laugh so hard and made training more enjoyable...

Hahaha..

Probably am gonna go back during December for a few days then come back to do my summer scholarship if I'm chosen (hopefully)..

Oh well.. Lets hope for the best. =))

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Whoa... Its been a long long long time since I've blog-ed...

It has been a great holiday.. Because... I've found a job!!

Hahhaa.. Shitty pay but everything else is good! Hahahhaa! I mean u have free transport, free good asian food like radish cake (carrot cake in SG) and bak chou mee for every shift and good bosses and good chefs and all! What more can u complain about?!

=)))

Dreading for school to start.. I'm gonna hate AIMS so much that if there's a fb page on it, i'll join it immediately.. I'll be most also probably cursing the statistic unit and naming all the SPSS document into 'stupid assignment 1', 'baka assignment', 'hell of an assignment', 'brainless assignment', and whatever that is... Hahhaa.. But Ryan's gonna teach me again, so I must be motivated! =))

Let's hope I can juggle both work and studies well enough and not get another distinction again..

Whatever...

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

It's exactly one year since I came to Perth!!

=))))

I wonder how much have I changed.. Haha.. I've definitely quieten down a lot. Hahahha!! I wonder anyone in sg misses me! Hahahhaa!!

Oh well...

Happy 1 year anniversary to Perth!! I shall reward myself with apple crumble! =)))

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

Shu Hui is very determined to find a job.

Let's hope I won't get lost while finding the place.

Hahaha.

Gain back your independence man! Dun rely on others anymore!!!

Go Shu Hui, go! =))

How do I express what I am feeling in words without making it sound so offensive.

Hmmm... Irritated to the max right now. zzzz...

Monday, June 7, 2010

LOL. Having a little break from studying.

And guess what I did?

I went to facebook and thought, "Hmm.. I should check out other ShuHuis." So I typed the same email format of mine but change the year (eg. 91, 84 etc). So approximately there are 4 Shu Hui with the same email format as me (Only did until 84 to 94).

Next, I typed ShuHui Koh in the search box. And whoa la! There's a couple of Shu Huis but I think three Shu Huis are active in FB (including me of course!).

HAHAHAHA.

This is really amusing!!

Ok, back to study. LOL. I think it's a good break spent amusing myself. HAHA.

Sunday, June 6, 2010

Just finished two of my paper last fri and it felt like its holidays already!!

I STILL HAVE BIOMED PHYSIO!!!

Haha.

A random thing that I caught on one of the notes I'm studying.

Heart Attack:

It's associated with blocked coronary arteries which reduces oxygen supply to the affected myocardium (aka ur heart). Therefore, the myocardium cells accumulate lactic acid and have insufficient energy to pump Ca2+ into the cytosol which eventually results in weaker contraction of the heart. These damage ur cells such that they wont be able to contract (if serious!).

And also, troponin I leaks into the blood and this is used as an indicator of the myocardial damage. Troponin binds to Ca2+ to start the crossbridging action to contract the heart.

Cool huh. That's why I love studying so much. *sniggers*

Last post until exams end.. =)

Now this is funny.. This is taken from a facebook group which is definitely true.

You know you have studied abroad in Australia when... (©Kim Öberg)
> You regardless of the problem/issue at hand always say "No worries mate" (much to the annoyance of your friends)
> You consider TimTams a food group
> You end every other sentence with mate
> You get disappointed to find there's no beet root on your hamburger
> You say "Put another prawn on the barbie" (not shrimp!)
> You consider cockroaches pets in need of love and heaps of bugspray
> You refer to football as soccer
> You feel completely comfortable wearing thongs in a bar/pub/club
> You still drink ungodly amounts of cheap champagne pretending it's passion pop (a.k.a. 2buck chuck)
> You miss having the option of full flush and half flush toilets
> You’ve tried Vegemite (once, never again)
> You no longer consider a word with 6 or more vowels odd (Woolloomooloo)
> You know what a thong really is
> You say "G'day mate" and don't give it a second thought
> You know that Hungry Jacks and Burger King is the same thing (only Hungry Jacks is better)
> You know what the term footy refers to
> You have the tendency to end all words/names with -o or -ie (Davo, Tomo, aussie, mozzie, breakkie)
> You still say "tom-ah-toe" instead of "tom-ay-toe"
> You know that saying "I'll go root with/for you at the 'footy' game" usually has unpredicted consequences
> You complain if you have more than 2 hours of class a day
> You know the correct word for mayonaise is maayo, not maeyo
> You consider a three letter word too long
> You know that tomato sauce is really another word for ketchup
> You get angry when the final exams aren't worth 1/2 your grade (so much for slacking during term)
> You coordinate your weekends so you don't have to buy more than a "one day pass" for the bus
> You for some reason consider belts under your boobs fashion
> You know the difference between AFL, Union and League
> You know a random AFL, Union or League team song by heart (Swannies for example)
> You still don't get Cricket (but went anyway cos of the beer)
> You enter McDonalds and wonder why there’s no McCafe
> You know the expression "Onya" and use it correctly
> You consider everyone to be your mate
> You have travelled more across Australia than the US
> You line dry your laundry to save money
> You say thank you to the bus driver when departing
> You get violent around dinner time if the peanut butter/nutella is in limited supply
> You consider $12 for a 4 litre-goon standard
> You've surfed or perhaps in most cases helplessly paddled around
> You engage in profound conversations with the checkout guy/girl at your local supermarket
> You consider Sundays and Mondays proper party nights (hell any week night for that matter)
> You have encountered spiders the size of a small dinner plate - and lived to tell the tale!
> You have eaten meat pie (@ Harry’s if you studied in Sydney)

> You say "Take it easy" in the most irrelevant situations
> You know that XXXX/Four EX is not porn rating
> You say tea instead of dinner
> You consider vegemite sandwiches a standard breakfast item
> You end all your emails with "Cheers"
> You still look for vodka, rum, dequilla and whiskey in cans when in the supermarket
> You’re suffering from severe withdrawal syndromes due to the absence of booze cruises
> You start a discussion or conversation with "I reckon..."
> You know what the term "It's happening at the Gabba" means (if you studied in Brissie that is)
> You miss watching Ready Steady Cook / Deal or No Deal / Neighbours / Big Brother and Thank God You’re Here
> You know that Tasmania isn't considered to really be a part of Australia, but New Zealand might be (that doesn't mean you can't make fun of their accents though!)
> You use 30+ sunscreen and wonder why you don't get tanned? (Ozonlayer holes is the shit! :P)

> You know that PR doesn't stand for public relations
> You wonder why you don't get a free mobile phone after a signing a two year contract

> You go out at 8 and wonder why you're the first one at the party

Things we don’t/won’t miss:
> The tropical birds. At first you found it rather romantic to wake up to exotic birds chirping, however a couple of weeks later you were starting to wish you’d brought a shotgun
> The so called ‘hot dogs’ in loaf bread you had at all the uni bbqs
> The sound of cockroaches as you were falling asleep and the little suckers finally dared to come out of their hiding places (preferably behind the stove, in the bathroom or under the bed.. euuww!)

Inspired by lectures.

Haha.

I think it was yesterday.. Kobi mentioned about how genetic engineering can lead to so many cons. Although there's soo many advantages of genetic engineering, there's still disadvantages to it.. I agreed to his statement, but I can't forget how genetic engineering have improved the life of soooo many people...

Today, during MGEN lectures, we came across how gene is regulation. One of the ways is via tRNA levels. So apparently, since we have amino acids that can be coded from different codons, and the transcriptional levels of each codon (that codes for the same a.a.) varies. So some tRNAs will be at very low level because their codons occur very rarely while some may be at high level as their codons occur frequently.

So how does this apply to our daily life?? It's used in genetic engineering! This is the same reason as to why there's different amount of translational products (amount of protein) produced when we inject the same gene to an animal or a human. Thus, we use genetic engineering to change the codon to those that occurs frequently (but the codon also codes for the same amino acid) such that the test subject is able to yield high amount of proteins.

Cool isn't it?

bad day. rare day. amazing day.

Its amazing how just one bad situation can result in a bad day even when someone had a wonderful day that day.

One sentence. I really really don't like hearing people who just say vulgarities like its nothing.

Well, lets just change how I think. Today is a WONDERFUL day.

Firstly, I learnt something neat in one of the lectures. White cats are more susceptible to tumour formation than black cats coz white cats have lesser melanin than black cats; thus they are unable to protect against the UV rays from the sunlight which leads to mutation and blah blah blah and whoa la, cancer formation!

Secondly, I found out that ah beng talks like a real ah beng.. But that ah beng is a really really nice and clever guy. =)

Thridly, (this is the most amazing thing that happened after I came to Perth) Ivan called my name! Hahaha!!! Imagine that!!! How can someone not say my name for sooooo long? I've nv heard him say my name before!! And Kahang realises it too! Hahaha.. Isn't it simply amazing?? We three are known to be always together for this entire semester (hear it somewhere, i think its from Ruth's friend) already and this is the first time he say my name.. Hahaha!

Lastly, Kobi made a really really really delicious lava cake!! That's the best lava cake I've eaten so far. Although it kind of failed his expectation, but its super super delicious! Carmen also made banana raisin muffins too. Haha!

So in overall.. I really really had a WONDERFUL day! =)

Monday, May 3, 2010

I WANT MY FB PASSWORD.

T.T
Ha Ha Ha.

I think I'm really going bonkers.. Now my favourite thing to do during breaks from studying is to find the online catalogue from Coles, IGA and woolsworth.. LOL..

And its whoppy 3 weeks to exams! And I have not started any revision! GOODNESS!!

2 more presentations, and 1 MGEN 'report' due next week!

So busy!
